Timeline
March 2023 - May 2023
New York City is home to a diverse range of museums, spanning art, history, culture, and science. However, exploring these museums can be overwhelming for both locals and visitors. This project uses data from NYC OpenData to help residents and tourists easily find and explore museums across all five boroughs.

Problem
Navigating the multitude of museums spread across all five boroughs of New York City can be challenging.

Insight
Create a platform that consolidates information on all city museums, providing a single access point for exploring them across all five boroughs.

Research
I’ve noticed NYC’s major museums often dominate the spotlight, numerous smaller museums across the city remain lesser-known.

•  Major museums receive most of the public and media attention, leaving smaller museums less recognized.

•  Museums are dispersed citywide throughout all five boroughs, making visitors hard to navigate.

•  A unified experience is essential for equal visibility and access.

Target Audience
Tourists and Visitors

Individuals who are exploring NYC and want to discover both major and smaller museums.
Local Residents

People living in NYC who are interested in exploring museums they may not have visited before.

01
Centralized Exploration Platform
It consolidates information about various museums, making it easier for users to find and learn about different cultural institutions in one place.

02
Museum Details on Hover/Click
When a user hovers over or clicks on a museum’s location marker on the interactive map, a pop-up displays the museum’s name across five boroughs in New York City.

03
Borough Filtering
Users can filter museums by selecting from the five boroughs—Manhattan, Brooklyn, Queens, The Bronx, and Staten Island. This feature refines the list view to show only the museums located within the chosen borough, aiding users in focusing their search on specific areas.
